Guitar Duo 22Strings

Carsten Grøndahl & Carsten Linck

The guitar duo 22strings was founded in 2005 by guitarists Carsten Linck , Germany and Carsten Gröndahl, Denmark. Since their musical studies both musicians have shared a love of the 11 string altoguitar of George Bolin. The extended tonal range of this rich sounding instrument (range: B-C-D-Eb-F-G-c-f-b-d´-g) allows on the one hand faithful reproduction of origin lute music from the Renaissance and Baroque period and on the other hand also the playing of new contemporary transcriptions from the cembalo- and piano literature without significant compromises, as can be heard on this recording.

Instruments: On tracks 1-3 and 7-10 Carsten Gröndahl plays an 11-stringed alto guitar built by Georg Bolin 1975. The upper 6 strings are tuned G-c-f-bb-´d-´g and the 5 bass strings are tuned B´b-C-D-Eb-F. Variation in the tuning occur. On tracks 4-6 he plays a 6-stringed guitar by Antonio Marin Montero 1994.
